Every Year an estimated 2.1 million older Americans are victims of  Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Psychological  Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation. Those statistics may not tell the whole story, For every case of elder abuse and neglect that is reported to authorities, experts estimate there may be as many as five cases that have not been reported.

Most elder abuse takes place at home. When elder abuse happens, family other household members, and paid caregivers usually are the abusers.

Elder Abuse, like other forms of violence, is never acceptable. Education is an effective intervention and can prevent or stop elder abuse.
Kentucky
's Cabinet for Health and Family Services  has organized 16 Local Coordinating Councils of Elder Maltreatment. These councils are made up of professionals and citizens to make the public aware of Elder Abuse.

     The Council in
Kentucky River
is called Kentucky River CAME. This council meets monthly and discusses ideas on how to inform the public. Since its conception  the Council has participated in several community events, developed a Resource Guide for the area, passed out Silver Ribbons & information, participated in Kentucky River Senior Games and  Kentucky River Mental Health & Aging Conference. The council is currently scheduling training for Bank Tellers, Law Enforcement, and Medical Staff.
